Genealogy: Benjamin Garcia Sr.

As most of you know I have been working the last several years on collecting genealogical information on our biological family. I would like to thank all of you for the information you have provided to me in various ways. It has ALL been helpful in piecing together the story of our family's wonderfully mysterious history.

Please click on the slideshow (above) to a collection of genealogical records that I have obtained on Benjamin Garcia Sr.

This is great. It's interesting, even though I knew Ben, my perspective of him is so limited. This reminds me that he had a life beyond what I remember him.

The only thing i remember about Ben was riding in the UPS truck in a box, that he enjoyed a good cigar.
And going thru Las Vegas one time on the road to "I dont remember where".
I kind of wonder if we were on the way to N.M. to visit his parents. hmmmm
Oh and being in his bar a few times.

Dick, thanks for sharing. That is very interesting! It is very possible that Ben may have gone to New Mexico to visit his father or grandparents but his mother was definitely in San Francisco.

As his mother (Lillian, aka Lillie) lived in San Francisco it appears that his father (Manuel) and mother separated before Ben and his mother came to California.

It appears that his father worked in the rail road company shop. The 1920 census shows them living in Raton, New Mexico. His father appears later in records outside of Denver, Colorado (which is along the rail line from Raton).

More to come on Manuel and Lillie in future posts!

Wow, I totally forgot that Ben smoked cigars. What a memory Dick. I can now picture it in my head- thanks. I can barely remember riding in the truck. They say those who have the best memory get senile sooner.

I can almost see a story coming out of this in the form of our family history interwoven with the places that Ben and Glenda were at.
Great job, Randy.

I find it very interesting and odd, that his Social Security number starts with 566. Ben's started with 556 and mine starts with 522. It is very odd. I knew that he had several different families and that his oldest son is also a Ben Garcia.

his son worked as a stunt man in Hollywood.. he did not wish to have anything to do with his half-sister's and brothers.

So much for his wishes. I have an idea that there will be contact made in the not-too-distant future.

ya also, the house needs to be checked out, as it was in the family, on our dad's side, so if you check out the deeds on the house, it may help. Just so you are aware, I am going to look into it, when I go to SF, also will see what I can find out from his home church, Let Randy know.

Is Randy doing our Mothers side, that would be easier.

Also, I am looking to see into our Father as I was told he was adopted? Is Randy aware of that?

OK. so i dont know if anyone else noticed. But it seems that Ben worked for Redlick Furniture Company since 1938.
I was ALWAYS under the impression that he worked for UPS all this time. Think maybe he worked PT for UPS?

@Lili: If you could let me know what you find out about the house I would be interested in adding it to my records. Also, I haven't seen anything to indicate that he was adopted but it does appear that his parents separated before he and his mother moved to San Francisco. It appears that he was raised by his biological mother in San Francisco while his biological father was living in Denver, Colorado.

@Dick: I don't think that is the case. I noticed the same thing that I think you did, specifically his employment status on his Death Certificate. I think this is simply indicating that he was a "Teamster" (truck driver) for 45 years, not necessarily that he was employed by Redlick Furniture Co for 45 years. I think Redlick Furniture Co. was his most recent employer before his death. From earlier records we know that he was employed by UPS. Good spot though.

Randy I will let you know what I do find out, also some leads I have, but can't do this until I get my records from the place I was at in two of the hospitals for blood and Church. I will go down with the proof that I was his daughter and show my adoption papers I have. Also Randy, if you are adopted, it does not show it as such. As my mom and dad are Emil and June Lange. Born in SF. It does not show I was adopted on the records. Just so you are aware. That is why I am tracing my records as such,... Also, that they listed us as white, not with mixed blood, as June and Emil, were listed as white..

Jack and Betty, have Bonnies, and until Betty dies, or gives permission, she can not open her records... they also are listed as white, I think, from what June Lange told me.

I am going to explore the White Apache tribe, when I go down, as she said we came from that clan. She and dad took us down there, Lisi was not with us, at that time, it was a road trip. What you are getting is so part of what I am aware of, and backs up what I was told, by mom and dad, Jack is listed as my brother. He adopted my sister Bonnie and helped with Dick, as Dick wanted to be with Doug,... we were happy he had a play mate with Doug.

I am trying to put a family tree together, that shows, raised or adopted. And also see if I can get the true fathers, in their right place, as so many gave the last name of the person that raised them or just gave them their name, without being the true father. That is one reason why I have tried to keep the records straight, also I know that Dick, was given the name of Garcia, though he had a different father. I did have his real name at one time, but lost it in the fire, as our real mother gave it to me, when she asked me to take guardian ship of Dick, Jess and me. She would not give it to Jack and Betty though they raised him.

Any more questions, email me on the email I have, with questions, that I will trace in this matter. Also I am creating a family tree, that will say, adopted, raised by... adding when I can find out. the real fathers name and mothers.
