Sewing Lessons

We're in Colorado visiting our kids. Here Karen is giving a sewing lesson. Our two girls are in the center, and a couple of neighbor kids. Click on the title for kids explaining a game to us.

that was funny,
i think to make a long story short, they were wanting you to go outside because they were wanting to get rid of ya,
kind of like throwing rocks to get rid of the street urchin.

Wow, there's a lost art! I tried to understand how a sewing machine works once, but I found it too complicated. Not that I'd ever try to use one, only that a person should know how they work, just not this person. I did try to sew a button on a pair of shorts last summer with needle and thread, and it worked until I put them on. Actually, I think it was a problem with inferior thread rather than my fat gut.

Did you ever understand how that game is played.

I was playing dumb, or that's what I was telling myself. When Maddy was there mimicking Grace, I saw it as one of those moments that you wish you would have gotten.
BTW Jim, my one an only sewing experience was making Karen a full length split leather cow hide coat. I thought a heavier leather was better. It actually stood part way up by itself when you stood it just right. It was so heavy, out of pure love Karen wore it once. I don't sew anymore.
