todays journey

so today i decided to get out of Dodge. I was able to get away for about 10 hours. so i decided to head east and go up to loon lake. well as i was driving down the back way i saw a sign that said Hell Hole Reseviour (sp). 1.5 hours later i arrived to a lake surrounded by granite rock that extended into the sky 1000 feet higher than the lake. the lake is about 5 miles long and 1/2 mile wide and the color of the water was deep blue. No, I did not go swimming. I saw no need to, but then again, does there need to be a need?

On the way back to the main road I found the road ive been looking for since i got here. Its the back way from Foresthill to Wentworth Springs rd. 43 miles, 4 hours. this is an area that a person could get lost in very easy.

Well i had 2 very nice suprises that made this whole journey much worth it.
1. I saw a wolf.
2. I saw a Black bear.
In the picture below is the black bear. Problem is it is impossible to make out. But it is there.

Very nice. That's something I haven't done in years, just venturing out into the unknown. You've reminded me about an activity that I've lost. Peter

The best kind of trip is when you have nowhere to go and you're not in a hurry to get there.

I guess this is Dick that posted this.
Dick do you remember when you said a bear got under your cot when we were camping years ago. I think that was at Shasta Lake.
I looked really hard to find this one.

OK, I blew it up. It's in front of the greener trees in the center of the picture facing towards the road. Right. It looks more like a very large dog or a cow.
You are sure it was a bear? Why didn't you get out of the car and have him chase you so we could see a closer picture of it.

Thanks Bon, I followed and blew it up too. But it's not a cow, or a bear, it's...........BIGFOOT!

Peter, that's old news. What I want to know is WHERE is the wolf, or rather how far did Dick travel in 10 hours? I think he may have gone as far away as Montana or Wyoming. I think the wolves in CA are in the same place as the state mammal, the grizzly bear, AWOL.

Jim, i could be wrong on the wolf. I do know that there have been sightings by some of the people that go back of the 'con. At first i thought coyote. but, after second look at it i thought it looked to big. However; winter is coming so it would be in a full coat, as was the bear. All i know was that when i saw the bear I thought, "300 lbs'ish of black going 20 miles an hour uphill. i dont want to be in the way".
When i got out of the car on the next switchback going up, i was still aware of my surroundings and listening. hoping i would see him again. but nope.

so next time you come down bring your game camera.

Bonnie, I dont know what your talking about, never happened, nope, no way. :)

Well, I suppose that if there have Bigfoot sightings in the area there very well could be a lost wolf or two also. What is the 'con that you refer to?

Hike into 'Buck Island.' It is well worth your time. Plan on swimming at the dam. It's beautifully refreshing.

Andrew who??
I still have a lot of places i want to hit up in the Eldorado and Tahoe N.F. Unfortunately my rig will only go to about 25% of them.

Could be a farrel dog too, it's behavior would be just like a wolf. Peter

Oh, was Bonnie right about where the bear is in the photo, I still can't make it out?

Dick said...

i think it is about 1/4 of the way across the photo. from left to right . and at about mid point. behind the branch that looks to be white. infact im sure thats him behind it where you can see a black outline
again i took this pic on the fly and the bear was on the fly.the op direction.
i was not about to jump out of the car and start chasing it. im not as brave as Sandi.

let me correct that. it shoulb be about 1/5 of the way from left to right.

Yes you are Dick.

OK, now I'm definitely seeing it (I think) I'm amazed that Bonnie saw it. But maybe that's why she was able to see, and shoot that razer back a while back.
