Actually there are some cults, including the christian variety, that believe we can 'become gods'. They use some vague references in scripture to support the view ,ie Psalms 82.6
Weather we speak it or not most of us like the idea. If not gods, then Kings or Queens. For decades Michael Jackson has attemepted to topple Elvis from his throne. Just a couple of weeks ago Aritha Franklin had to reaffirm that she is 'Queen' of pop, and not Tina Turner! There are many groups where the leader has declared himself to be Jesus, including Charles Manson.
The real meaning behind the Psalms scripture above gets clouded when it's processed through man's fallen mind. The reality is God places his Spirit in us, and that is what gives us the status we enjoy, otherwise we're no better than clever chimps.
