7th update, Chuck, Sunday, May 25

Mitch called again last night. It was pretty much all good news. Mitch had taken Chuck to the doctor on Wednesday and had already received the thyroid test results. His thyroid was functioning normally so any non-normal behavior can’t be attributed to any thyroid problems. The blood pressure pills that Chuck started last week are already having a positive effect. Mitch said that he’s already noticed a 50-60% improvement in Chuck’s attitude.

Mitch also took Chuck to the CAL PERS office and has started the retirement benefits process. The lady made it sound like it wouldn’t be a problem, but it would take a minimum of 90 days. She was going to send an application, so Chuck and Mitch can fill it out and get the process started. Mitch still wants him to get in to see the doctor that he was seeing before to get a mental evaluation. There is the possibility that he could qualify for some type of disability in addition to the retirement, and with that there may be some type of medical coverage. If I understood Mitch correctly, the PERS office said that medical coverage option must be initiated within 120 days of separation from the CDC, so, at this point he may not qualify for medical coverage. Anyway, Mitch is making progress on Chuck’s behalf and Chuck has been amiable to Mitch helping.

While the future is looking much better than three weeks ago at this time there are still pressing concerns; house mortgage up-to-date, house insurance, property taxes, utilities, and day-to-day living expenses. Yes, Chuck let himself get into this position, and, yes, it would’ve much better for all concerned if he hadn’t let his pride get in the way. If you can assist, here’s Mitch’s address: So, as you can see, Mitch is making progress on Chuck's behalf.

Mitch's address, if you can assist, or want to contact him, ANYTHING can help.

Thanks Jim, this much appreciated. One further note about Chuck "letting himself....." and pride. I don't see anyone is thinking that way. All of us want to be independent. The fact is, none of us can be, we all need someone. I really appreciate your documenting these health issues, and how it effects the mind and resulting behavior. Don't tell anyone, but with my thyroid out of whack, I'd find myself crying during sad movies. Normally I'm way to macho for that. In addition, someone said: "God is the only one who is truly sane and normal". All the rest of us are trying to get there. You can't live in this world without being a little wacko, or abnormal. That's the challenge. I like what Karen said to one young person who complained about coming from a dysfunctional home. "Everyone comes from dysfunctional homes". So, what to do about it now.....just deal with it!

Good news about Chuck but it still might be contested with them about the medical condition. To use his mental health condition at the time, being unable to properly judge and manage it to properly do the paper work process for retiring. There are always grievance procedures to follow and try.
p.s. Remember Sandi..... don't forget the super glue !!
Do you really think we are going to drop YOUR medical issues ?!!! me

thanks Jimmy for the update on Chuckie. I can understand 100% where hes coming from. Pride is a very real evil with us humans, just because were made in Gods image dosnt mean that we always have the mind of Christ. although that is what we are to strive for. The mind is such a volitol (sp) war ground. we tend to look at whats happing around us and then think on the negative of those things and they can consume us to death, litterally. I know.
One of the things that helped me was the zoloft i was on for almost 10 years. and learning cognitive thinking. Mind you te Zoloft was a tool to help me in the process of learning the way fo change my way of thinking. it wasnt what healed me. i still have my moments, as we all do, but know i know how to seperate fact from truth:)
I will try to help Chuck financially if i can.

oh and im glad sandi is ready to split your firewood now.

The doctor's orders said she can't run a vacuum for 6 weeks. He didn't say anything about not being able to split and stack wood. I'd think there's something therapeutic and healthy in the wood splitting process.

Peter,
Does that mean I have to take back that "tear jerker" movie that I had planned to bring instead of bringing it to the reunion?

Please, no chick flicks. The doc gave me a clean bill of health the other day, so I could probably sit through one, but I wouldn't want to try.

Jim said...

Don't you find it somewhat interesting that you feel good about getting a clean bill of health from the doctor...until you get the bill? Suddenly you feel ripped off because the doctor didn't find anything wrong with you.

Yeah, and I have to go back every three months to be told I feel fine. Hey it's ok, it keeps the economy going.
