New (good) family news!!!

Now click the title.
I guess that's one way to build suspense. It's been a crazy busy week. Chuck's situation is weighing heavily on my mind. The thought that it could've been worse for Ben and his accident and how quickly things can change. The happiness for Susi. Andrew and Rachael are down because of not having secure jobs for next year, and that's because of the Calfornia budget crisis. The kids at school are ready for summer now that the testing is over. It's like trying to herd a flock of butterflies for 7 hours a day...without a net. I've had commitments every day after school. It has been unCrescent City-able hot. I had my colonoscopy yesterday (one 2mm polyp removed). Sandi's surgery is Monday. She's having hysterectomy surgery in Medford. I'm getting my hernia repaired June 4. Am I complaining? No, just venting.

the good news is that...
Jim is human, and can make mistakes too.

I can testify that small weddings can be very effective. Karen and I got married at Clark county court house in Vegas.
We'll be praying for Sandi's surgery.

So great to have good things happen. They over ride problems and without them life would really not be worth the time to be here.
The hard part is finding the better part of the bad things.
I hope we as a learning group get a breather and can smell the flowers without strife for a while pretty soon.
know we are thinking of (and praying) for the best results for all, Jim, Sandi, just plain ALL...

Ok, I just laughed out loud when I read the comment about Jim washing his feet before the next set of photos!!! That's just funny is what that is...

(No I'm not saying that Jim never washes his feet!)

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers and congrats on the kids. Life is good and we both feel very, very blessed. Can't wait to see you ALL at the reunion.

My best for you Sandi on your surgery. I am glad I had mine done. Took a while to really get back to normal but get up and walking as soon as you can. I was up 12 hours after surgery even tho they really didn't want me up yet. Be careful bending over. It is amazing how much we do that. Squat when even you need to get something off the floor and hold your belly. Ben kept after me for bending. If you have one, take a back brace with you and put it on backwards. It really helps. Go at your own pace. somethings you can do earlier than suggested as you are probably used to doing it. the hardest is not to lift anything. At least you have the kids to do that. Don't let Jim lift anything either until after his hernia op. let us know how it goes. If you have an aloe plant, cut the leaves in half and rub the sap on the incision after about 6 weeks. It helps heal and makes the scar smaller. I need to do some more as it will eventually shrink to almost nothing. Our prayers are with you. Love Illa

oh , and who is having the hernia operation?

I'm getting it done. I get the results in about two weeks from the colonoscopy. I'm surprised how many women we know have had a hysterectomy.

Thanks for the tips, Illa--I appreciate the ideas and will follow your advice.

I suggested some ways that Jim could get caught up on some of his "honey dos" around here, and he immediately pointed out that the hernia situation is prohibiting him from being able to do anything except haul his boat down to the beach and paddle around in the waves!

So I guess this summer he and I will be sitting on the front porch in rockers sipping prune juice spritzers and eating purreed foods out of tiny glass jars with babies on the front.

Hopefully the kids will stop by in the evenings and offer to help us change our Depends undergarments and give us sips of water from cups with bendy straws...

Ah, those golden sunset years! What happened to a few years of blissful retirement before this health stuff all hit the fan???

Well Ben, it's just the facts of life. Think about what they do with old people throughout the third world; and what happened to them throughout history: "Can't keep up, well Pop, see you later". Thankfully we have other options in our very rich world. AND, thank goodness for people like Suzie who'll take care of these. But, there is something a bit sad about how some hold to life so tenaciously. Don't get me wrong, I think we should fight for every life, and hold it sacred; however, there's a little something attractive, when you know it's your time, to think of standing on the street corner of downtown Tehran and preach how Jesus is the only way.

actually, at least in the orient, and as I remember, down in Mexico, I saw a tighter family unit than a lot here in the U.S.A. !!

I had a little problem with the video at first, but then it played beautifully. I had to wipe my eyes several times!!! There is just something about a wedding that makes me cry. I'm going to bring lots of kleenex to Suzi's! Sandi I had a hysterectomy when I was 38 years old and I was one happy camper. I had those benign tumors and the uterus had grown to the size of a football. I hadn't realized how terrible I felt until the surgery was over and I had the opportunity to be without all those silly complications. Jim, hope your surgery goes well. I really think they best thing for surgery is a good paddle out to the sea. Sandi, your going to have to keep Jim company out there. Thanks for sharing the wedding news with us and the great pictures. I will keep Andrew and Rachel in prayer for their job situration. Love you all.
