I am always amazed by things in the forest. This is a pretty common lichen in our area. Its common name is a 'Bearded lichen.' Latin name...I don't know.
It has a number of different uses: you can use it for TP, you can clean pots and pans with it, you can use it as a scrub brush, you can even use it as a firestarter. Just not necessarily in that order.

The pictures nature makes are so awesome! Darryl and I have gotten to the place we don't go out, to movies, to dinner or anywhere else we don't need to. We sit on our porch for hours and enjoy the beauty God gives us, the cats, dogs, creatures throwing nuts at us, even the beauty of the many kinds of spiders we find in and around our house. Course he's found he's addicted to landscaping our place. Maybe the endorphins ! But I can see how other generations didn't need tv or outside entertainment !
