Another try !

Since nobody posted I though I would. This is the 5th. day for Illa and I on trying to quit smoking again. We have reduced it from 3 or 4 cigarettes an hour to 1 every hour and a half. That is actually a BIG step for a smoker. We also walk along the fence line each day to get in a bit of exercise. Not as nice as a walk on the beach, but, it is exercise !!

That's great! Every positive step a person takes is a good step. We don't walk every night either, but it feels good after it's done.

So, that's how you found out about your new fence addition! You still packing 'heat?'

I am so proud of you two, one step at a time and one day at a time.

Dick hope you weren't serious about not posting anymore. I love your posts, plus we don't need anyother stay on like Chuck. oh ya, I'm not suppose to mention his name, but if you read this CHUCK, "YOU ARE MISSED."
Sorry people, I have always had a hard time with not doing something, when someone tells me not to do it.
I keep asking: WHERE IS GLENDA??? I lost her email address on my other computer and my mind went blank. (PLEASE NO COMMENTS. I MAY HAVE TO COME BEAT YOU UP DICK AND BEN.) Love YALL

Bonnie !! Hit Dick first !!! I will send you Glenda's address.

Wow, I'm going to pray for you two! I've heard that some kick the habit easier than others. I sure don't know what makes the difference. But I've heard that it's harder to quit smoking than it is to quit eating. Hmmm, I wonder if those folks have to have a meal after every cigarette? Anyway, I'll keep praying for you.

Hey Dick, your siblings have been punished enough, Besides, it's not fair to punish the guiltless (me) with the guilty. COME BACK. Peter

Don't ask Ben how he is doing. He may report me. He may tell you he is turning black and blue. That's cause he is in charge of the cigarettes. Granted there are a couple of unopened packs on the table but i want one from the open pack. Illa

Hey Illa, if I get to bad you might think of getting a couple pairs of boxing gloves but then get a bag and hang it fromt eh ceiling and the two of you go at it. Just call it expanding your exersize program.
Oh ya, love Schindlers List, we have it and watch it ever ones in awhile.

I bugged Glenda about not posting, hopefully we will hear from her. I keep trying to get Suzy to post too. She is so busy, but don't give up on her.

B & I: keep up the great work! This is awesome news. One day at a time and all the other cliches that apply here. I'm really hoping that it "sticks" this time for good and forever. And it's probably smart that you're walking your property line--sounds like you have some neighbors who need to be watched. Way to keep 'em guessing!

About sibling silence: you guys are so lucky that you've gotten to the place where you don't childishly cut each other off every time someone doesn't get their way. I had 2 sisters who played that game. One died. Now the other gets to live with those regrets for the rest of her life. Not fun. In fact, I believe that this is what hell really is: regrets for letting the important things in life go. Like your connection to the people who love you enough to tease you about life.

Never let the regrets get you. It's hell.

LOL VERY GOOD Sandi, I am sure Dick is just busy, we kid quite a lot when we get on the I-chat ! So I feel comfortable he is just busy.
We actually made it two hours once today without a cigarette. She did pretty good and didn't try to hit me yet.
As for what hell is, I am pretty sure you are right, knowing what we should have done and not doing it. The memory of it can really hold you down and make you ache inside.
Peter is right too, I didn't always wear a badge, and I can say, quitting smoking is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

Ok, knowing Ben as I do, I figured out a way to help Ben stop smoking (sorry Illa, this wont work with you)

Ben, there is no way you can smoke one less cigarette tomorrow- than you did today!

Anonymous said...

Hey Peter, actually Illa and I will smoke even less than that. Tomorrow we extend the time to two hours between smoking. Not to, or too, rather TWO !!
We close to that today, a couple times.

Illa, I didn't mean if I get to bad, I meant if IT, (the not smoking thingy) gets to bad, get some boxing gloves.

Boy I swear my writing is is going down the hill faster than me.

TWO LESS! This is working better than I thought. You can thank me when you come up and see us soon.

Hey all you up north !! Want some snow !! I love it, if I can't ride the bike I can watch it snowing !! again

Bonnie said...

ben eat toe, you mean you are not going to take my suggestion and put skids on your bike and ride it like a snowmobile.
We are getting freezing rain and some snow flakes.

Rick says hi and send is love. He also said I was a very lucky person to have so many terrific brothers and sister. I TOTALLY AGREE. I keep him up on the blog. He always gets a good laugh. Me I get warm fuzzy feelings.
Sandi is so right how blessed we are to have eachother.

Now if I could maybe devise a way to put a heater on it, that might be a good idea !! lol Rick and Sandi are right that we do have such a great group. Plus the fact we have them in the family.
I figured it out, we are smoking 8 cigarettes a day instead of 20 to 24 a piece. A pretty good step. We are holding to the schedule we started and doing pretty well. Not saying we don't watch the time towards the last 10 minutes!! lol
Snowing still here, but, I think we will still do the walk, takes up part of the time.

well, we have done 2 hours and twice 2 and a half hours between today !! HEY, tell Illa to quit hitting me!

Actually we are now up to 2 and 1/2 hours apart since 3:30 pm. We are planning 3 to maybe 4 hours apart tomorrow. at least finish up what we have in this pack if that works out or the next day as we are really cutting down. So actually today will only be 7 cigarettes instead of 8 as we had planned. What is really strange is that i watch the time as it gets closer, get really jumpy and such and then just get the thing and hold it in my hand and just the knowing that I could smoke it then or even wait a little longer is not so bad. I get calmed down some and site there and breathe and look at it and just keep thinking, you can go a little longer. It is right there but you really don't need it. So far we have been able to push it half hour longer then but that is about it.

So far I haven't killed Ben or even smacked him. I am keeping my temper pretty good. At least not yet. Key word, YET!!!

Sounds like it is something similar to the craving for food. stands to reason, your body has been fed it for so long, it now wants to rebel. Closest thing I've ever experienced is fasting. Seems when you do, food is the dominant thing in the mind. But after a few days fasting actually becomes easier. I hear people with anorexia totally loose their want of food. Just goes to show, that the body can be an obedient thing; if you work at it long and hard enough (and you can take the pain.) Hey, others have succeeded, so can you. Will continue praying for you.

3 hours from the last smoke !!

Bonnie said...

WOW you two, your progress encourages me to stay on my diet keep up the good work. Be sure when you go out in public to wear cloths that hide the black and blue marks. Some day look back on this time and compare how much better food taste and fresh everything smells and how much better you feel. Our prayers are with you each hour of progress. LOL.
Dick, I'll save that email for Rick, boy did I identify with it.

we did quit once for 5 years. that is true about the taste of the food. course, if the food tastes bad anyway,.................

o.k., progress report... sat. 26th., we are at four hours between smokes. that is 5 a day, big reduction for over a pack a day !! not saying it is easy now, cuss it ain't !! and I did spell it correct. lol but actually even with it harder, we aren't really fighting or cussing !!

Peter said...

That's an amazing decrease. The benefits will be great. Still praying for you.
