Of the fifty-six signers of the Declaration of Independence, the following were known to be members of a Masonic lodge:
William Hooper, member of Hanover Lodge, Masonborough, North Carolina.
I just thought it was interesting that he was a mason. What a proud heritage you have.

I understand that there quite a few signers that were Masons. While I don't know a lot about Masons, I always get a few 'ooohhhs and 'ahhhhs when I tell the kids where to look on the Declaration of Independence and they see Great-great-great grandpa William Hooper's signature is there on the bottom of the document. But, I'm not sure if he really knew what he was doing, I sign my name on whatever is handy too. Trees, bridges, rocks, etc.
It kind of runs in the family I guess, did you know that Sandi's mothers maiden name was Mason?
Jim
Manson ?!!
no ben,
M-A-S-O-N.
you have to remember this and repeat after me.
"I AM NO LONGER IN THE PRISON SYSTEM"
Looking at the declaration and the three makes of it, I figure the Hooper was a true rebel !! Think of it, here he was signing it and then the lineage moves to Jefferson State. VERY VERY cool history !!
