Dick, it's great to hear about your conversation with Ben. I had been wondering where you have been, as I haven't seen you on the blog for a little bit. I'm going to give Bonnie a call and let her know I am thinking of her too.

These last few weeks with Ben as sick as he has been has really caused me to do a lot of thinking about God and the suffering we see in this world of ours. A few days ago Peter mentioned how good it did his heart to hear Ben be so concerned about Chuck. He mentioned how sick Ben is but yet he is thinking of others. That says so much for Ben's character. But I ask myself what does that say about my God?

I know a couple of years ago Ben made a turn around in his life. It is my opinion, more so than knowledge, (Illa please correct me if I am wrong) that he could not stand the idea of life without his prescious Illa and Illa had needs I don't know about specifically. The situation was enough to bring him to his knees before God and I found something in Ben that I could connect with. The need for repentance for a life lived a part from God. It was clear in some of our discussions that he knew that God was his only hope in becoming the husband and father that his family needed and deserved. I believe it was around the same time frame that we became aware of the battle he was starting with cancer. It was at this point I turned to God and wondered "What? This makes no sense!" Here your child has come to you on bended knee, asking for forgiveness and renewal of spirit and this is what your answer is for him?"

When I saw him in his hospital bed, again my mind turned to God and comes away with more questions then answers. The facts that keeps me from being bitter and angry is the fact that I see Ben and Illa reaching out in love for any of us who are in need. Then I am reminded that our God works in ways I will never be able to understand, but there is one thing I can be aussured of; His love will prevail and sustain us in our hours of need. So I continue to be committed to trusting Him because He is worthy.

You are so right, Dick - Ben is a superman...the Spirit who lives in him makes him that way. I thank the Lord for Ben, the "Super Man!"
